Self-starting, self-regulating Fourier domain mode locked fiber laser for OCT imaging
We present a Fourier domain mode locking (FDML) fiber laser with a feedback loop allowing automatic startup without a priori knowledge of the fundamental drive frequency. The feedback can also regulate the drive frequency making the source robust against environmental variations. A control system samples the energy of the light traversing the FDML cavity and uses a voltage controlled oscillator...
متن کاملSelf-starting self-mode-locked femtosecond diode-pumped Cr:LiSAF laser.
We describe a diode-pumped Kerr-lens mode-locked Cr(3+):LiSrAlF(6) laser that produces 50 mW of 70-fs pulses in the 820-890-nm range when pumped by two red diodes of 400 mW each. By using a lower-transmission output coupler we have demonstrated for the first time to our knowledge a self-starting regime with an output power of 10 mW and 55-fs pulses.
متن کاملTransient dynamics in a self-starting passively mode-locked fiber-based soliton laser
We describe measurements of spectrally resolved turn-on and turn-off dynamics in a self-starting passively mode-locked fiber soliton laser. An intracavity quantum well optical amplifier whose bias is modulated changes the cavity losses, thereby switching the laser between continuous wave and mode-locked states. We show that during the transients, the laser undergoes a period of self Q switching...
متن کاملHigh power wavelength linearly swept mode locked fiber laser for OCT imaging.
We report a long coherence length, high power, and wide tuning range wavelength linearly swept fiber mode-locked laser based on polygon scanning filters. An output power of 52.6 mW with 112 nm wavelength tuning range at 62.6 kHz sweeping rate has been achieved. The coherence length is long enough to enable imaging over 8.1 mm depth when the sensitivity decreases by 8.7 dB (1/e(2)). The Fourier ...
متن کاملUnidirectional ring resonators for self-starting passively mode-locked lasers.
Mode pulling and 6talon effects have been claimed to prevent self-starting in passively mode-locked lasers that use fast saturable absorbers. A unidirectional ring geometry significantly reduces backscatter coupling and thus should facilitate self-starting. We present supportive evidence and demonstrate true self-starting in self-stabilized, passively mode-locked Ti:sapphire and erbium fiber la...
